hey peeps

well some of you know i invested in a rather cheapy but nice compaq presario cq60 just before xmas
well as the standard specs wernt too shabby but not enough for my needs i decided to invest in a few upgrades

it originaly has a

1gb ddr2 memory
120gb sata hd
amd sempreon si-40 2.00mhz processor which is about the equivelent to a 3.00ghz celeron desktop cpu
and had vista bacic as the os

well i upgraded the memory to 4gb 2x 2gb 667mhz clock
and a 250gb hd

it cost a few quid but it flys now and deffo a good investment so far
now the problem is the cpu as its not really a gamers cpu so i was hoping there is some compatible cpu i could use like a amd dual core or sommit

does anyone have any clue if my lappy can have the cpu upgraded ???

its running on a phenix bios and sofar there is no way to fiddle with cpu settings so im unsure if the bios will update the cpu settings or if its locked only to this cpu??

im not really fussed about playing games on it as i have the wii for it but im just rather miffed that my desktop pc which is nearly 4 years old can play gta IV AND MY LAPTOP CANT just because the cpu is slightly under par even though technicaly my laptop out specs my desktop system
as its only running with a 1gb + 256mb ram and just a fraction under 3ghz celeron cpu with a 256mb gfx

dont get me wrong it runs pish but it plays lol

should i just give in or invest in a better cpu??
any advice (IMG:https://gizmondoforums.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Take a look inside, see if the cpu can be removed , if it can

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Intel-Core-2-Duo-T54...%3A1|240%3A1318

same cpu i have, or you can search better.

my laptop specs

Intel Core 2 Duo T5450 CPU 1.66Ghz
1gb ram
80gb hdd (i have 2 fualty 250gb hdds)
Nvidia Gforce 8600m GS 512mb deticated graphics
vista home premium

i can play any game i want, altho i havnt tried gta 4 because of my very small hdd.

I have windows rating of 4.5

OK....

Generally, CPU's cannot be lifted from a laptop motherboard.

And that ebay processor was an intel, the one you have puggster is an AMD.

Most likely its the graphics card, or lack of. It's an intergreated chipset you have, no way to upgrade.

yes they can tommi

my 4 year old Packard bell easynote can

it is called socket 479

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Socket_479

most laptops use this socket. ive never had and amd computer but it looks like they have an equivalent socket (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Socket_S1)

anyways i pimped my laptop loads.

i changed the screen

i added wifi card

gutted it to pass antenna cable though.

ill put up some pictures sometime

anyway the cpu you have is fine. i doubt it is as fast as a 3ghz celeron but its better than my cpu (1.4ghz celeron m)

the one i have can be removed by twisting a little black screw and it pops out

when i ran a compatability test for gta IV it showed i had good overall stats but failed on cpu only

i think the graphics are shared on this pc so in theory it will have like over 1gb ram behind the graphicsi

its a GE Force 8200 M G. Chip which i know isnt a gamers spec chip but it should be suficeint to play it on a lower setting ild think

just cpu seems under par (IMG:https://gizmondoforums.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) (IMG:https://gizmondoforums.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/dry.gif)

edit here is a spec list of feature

it seems ok for a cheapy processor anyways and as far as i can see its a good all rounder for general use
just not gaming (IMG:https://gizmondoforums.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) lol

Hmm, I know Intel one's can be replaced, but always thought AMD ones were soldered to the board itself...

nah you wont be able to play gta4 on the 8200m sorry.

you really need an 8600 or better and that is a huge upgrade and impossable on a laptop.

Its not impossible why does everyone say this about laptops only to be proved wrong, my laptop is a refurbished laptop, it doesnt come with an deticated graphics card, it was fitted after.

Your statement is true for some laptops but it is very possible for others.

ah well thats that out the window then lolz (IMG:https://gizmondoforums.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

its prolly a bad idea playing it on a laptop anyways as this thing heats up quicker than a electric BBQ playing GTA san andreas

its showing i have over 2gb available graphics memory but has 256mb dedicated memory for graphics
no wonder the ram upgrade seriously improved the current games i have

i can play gta sa and MS flight sim 2004 at full settings where as before i had to set at medium to play without lag

anyhoo not to worry as i didnt really buy it for games anyways
more for photoshop and internet stuff really
cant grumble @ 300 bux
as i could do alot worse for that money (IMG:https://gizmondoforums.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

cheers
